We all need to fall (and then rise)

Paris, 7 August 2025

Hi Friend,

It's András here.

Today we are going to talk about being humble.

And about being smug.

Summer is over.

This was my 12th season of doing summer schools.

In the past, I've been a teacher, Director of Studies, Centre Manager – and also Summer Schools Director overseeing multiple summer schools for some years.

Enough experience to make me feel like I know what I'm doing when walking into a summer school.

So, have I been smug?

Oh, yes, absolutely.

Too smug?

Yeah, a touch too smug.

And yes, karma is a thing, and yes, I may have slipped on some banana peels.

Not on real ones, and not embarrassingly, but I've got enough curveballs from the universe to teach me a lesson.

Because if one thing is certain about summer schools, it's that no matter how experienced, prepared, flexible and calm you are, you will be tested, pushed and stretched.

And it actually takes very little for things to feel overwhelming.

Just think of a printer not working for half an hour when you really need it.

Or one too many people getting sick at the same time.

Terrible examples, please use your own instead, I know you have some.

Humbling, isn't it?

Yes – in a good way.

It does feel good to experience how small you are.

To be wiped out by a huge wave while surfing.

To hit a pocket of unstable air while flying.

To look up to a skyscraper and then look down from the top.

The thing is, experience teaches you how to get back on your feet when you need to, really quite quickly – but still notice the fall and appreciate how easily it could have been bigger.

And, as you will have gathered by now, I do think we all need to fall sometimes. Even if just a tiny bit.

Now stop falling.

OK, it's been great to have been briefly reminiscing about our tiny moments of darkness, but now let's start to grow.

Use these moments to become even stronger when the universe next strikes back.

And let's be just a tiny bit less smug about everything that we do so well.

Consultancy now available.

Right, so now that we're back to our humble selves, may I suggest that there is a chance I can add value to your school or education business?

At this time of the year in particular, it's a good idea to sense check what you do – whether it's about finalising your prices, realigning your sales strategy, or getting ready for a new year of operations.

You know as well as I do that there is always a way to improve what we do – and in such a competitive environment, I'm sure you want to be leading the game.

So, grab a free chat – and let's see where we could get your school or education business together.

See you soon,

András
